Discover the Island!
Basin Head Beach
Basin Head Beach House is located on the Basin Head Beach, which is home to the Basin Head Provincial Park. You will find a fisheries museum and a popular beach called, Singing Sands Beach, which was named the Number #1 beach in Canada.
East Point
The white (silica) sand on the coast between Basin Head and East Point is geologically unique in the province. It sings when you walk on it, hence the name “Singing Sands”. East Point is an hour drive from the Charlottetown airport.
The seaside town of Souris is but a fifteen minute drive away from Basin Head Beach. Souris has a hospital, walk-in clinics, fresh seafood store, a farmers market, grocery stores, banks, coffee shops, craft shops and choice restaurants. A Prince Edward Island Tourist Information Centre and the pier for the Madeline Islands Ferry are also located there.
East Point Lighthouse, a ten minute drive from Basin Head Beach House, is worth visiting. It is where the tides of the Northumberland Strait and the Gulf of St. Lawrence meet head on, especially visible on a windy day. Playing seals bob up and disappear in the waves of the rolling sea. If you’re game to climb to the top of the lighthouse, the vista is breathtaking.
PEI Tuna Charters
North Lake Fishing Harbour, known as the “Tuna Capital of the World” is 15 minutes from the Basin Head Beach House. Here, during the commercial tuna season, you may get a chance to see a 700 to 1500lb. tuna brought ashore. If going out on a boat to participate in catching one of these monsters of the sea, contact Captain Jeff MacNeill at www.peitunacharters.com to book a catch and release tuna charter. For a shorter, more family friendly fishing tour, consider booking a deep-sea fishing, whale watching and seal watching tour. Sailing with Captain Jeff aboard the vessel Money Maid is an unforgettable Island adventure. From fishing, observing whales and seals, or just admiring the coastline scenery, be sure to have a camera ready to capture the great experience that his clients rave about and recommend to family and friends.
Come and See!
Prince Edward Island is famous for the number of golfing resorts. There are 27 golf courses on the Island. Three Provincial Courses are approximately 45 minutes from the Basin Head Beach House: Crowbush Golf Course, Dundarave Golf Course and Brudenell Golf Course. There is also a nine-hole golf course called Rollo Bay Greens about 20 minutes from the beach house.
Eastern PEI offers many attractions such as festivals and events, all within close proximity and easy to find. And to just relax and soak up the sun, walk for miles exploring the beach, or looking out over the ocean for whales spouting off in the distance, Basin Head Beach House offers exactly that.
